I trust most sincerely on public grounds that after a year or eighteen months at home Mr. Cleverly will find himself sufficiently restored in health and strength to admit of his continuing for some little time in the discharge of his duties, as on his retirement this Colony would sustain loss which it would be very difficult indeed to replace.

If however he should not be able to return here, and should make application for a pension, I am sure his claims will receive at your Lordship's hand that favourable consideration which is due to long and faithful and efficient services under constant exposure in a trying climate.
